Independent work sample, built for one real business

AMB Driving School: a real slot to book with your assigned instructor, plus automatic confirmations and reminders

AMB Driving School is a Ministry of Transportation-approved Beginner Driver Education provider operating in the GTA since 1993, with 8 locations across Toronto, Markham, Richmond Hill, Newmarket and Scarborough and courses taught in eight languages. Its own published FAQ explains that once in-class instruction ends, a student is simply handed an in-car instructor's name and phone number and has to call or text to book every lesson directly, based on that instructor's personal availability, no online scheduling anywhere in the process. This example shows what a self-serve booking calendar tied to each instructor's real availability could look like, plus an automatic confirmation and reminder queue so a booked lesson is not just a text message nobody follow-up on.

AMB Driving School's own FAQ page states that after in-class instruction ends, a student receives their in-car instructor's name and phone number and must contact that instructor directly to book appointments based on availability. Public reviews on Yelp describe what that process looks like in practice: weeks spent texting and calling an instructor with no response, a last-minute meeting location well outside the area the student expected, and an instructor changing more than once in the same day without notice. Two local competitors, Young Drivers of Canada and Kruzee, both already advertise instant online booking for in-car lessons. This is framed as closing a specific gap against named competitors, not as a broader complaint about instruction quality; the classroom side of AMB's program is not in question here. The tools below only address the handoff moment: after class ends, how a student actually gets a lesson on the calendar with their assigned instructor.

1. Self-service in-car lesson booking, by instructor

Pick your assigned instructor, then a day and an open slot from their real schedule. No more texting and waiting to hear back before you know what's even available.

Illustrative instructors & slots

Instructor hours and open slots shown are illustrative for this example. A real build reads each instructor's actual availability.

2. Automatic confirmation & reminder queue

The exact gap named in the outreach: once a lesson is booked, it should not depend on the instructor remembering to text back. Every booking gets a confirmation the moment it's made, and a reminder queued for the day before.

How this gets built for real

The calendar is a standalone log here. A real build reads and writes each instructor's actual availability, however AMB's dispatch office currently tracks it, so instructors see one schedule, not a second one to keep in sync by hand.
Confirmations and reminders are on-screen and in local storage only. A real build sends an actual text or email the moment a lesson is booked, and again the day before, instead of relying on the instructor to respond personally.
Instructor list, languages and locations are illustrative. A real build starts from AMB's actual instructor roster and each instructor's real coverage area and language, not the placeholder names used here.
